What’s stopping most teachers from starting a side hustle? They don’t know what to do! In fact, many teachers think that they aren’t qualified to do anything but teach. Not true, my friends! And today we’re talking about how to uncover your Side Hustle talents.

Grab the freebie

If you are thinking about starting a side hustle but you’re not sure where to start, make sure you grab a copy of my free resource, The Ultimate List of Side Hustles for Teachers. It gives you 125 businesses you can run while teaching full time. There are of course a few education based options but there are also a few that might surprise you too.

Now if you register for my free seminar, How to Choose the Right Side Hustle for Me, you’re going to get a copy of this too so you don’t have to sign up for both. Once you get the list, you can print it out and give it a look. Cross out anything that’s not of interest to you and highlight anything that sounds like it might be a good fit. This is a really good place to start and I highly recommend it.

What are you good at?

Starting a business is tough enough, so starting with something that you have to learn from scratch is probably just going to make it more difficult and more frustrating for you. Starting with something you’re already good at just makes sense.

What do people ask you to do?  Start to think about some qualities that you have and try to look beyond the obvious answer; teaching. What specific skills do you have as a teacher? When you start to think about it, you’re going to find a lot of things that you’re really good at that you might not have thought of before.

I you are really good at explaining things to beginners, that’s a skill you have. If you’re really good at handling difficult people, that is something to think about. Now, I highly suggest you actually start to make a list because for one thing it’s going to make you feel really good about being you. Are you good at organizing? Are you good at anything tech related? Are you just like a Google master?

What lights you up?

What do you love to do? Do you love to be outdoors? Do you love to be indoors? Do you love to talk to people? Would you rather never talk to another person for the rest of your life? What really to you want to do if you had your choice of anything in the entire world to do?

If time were no issue and money were no issue, what would you fill your days with? Now you can go back and cross reference these two lists. What are you really good at and what do you love to do? Because that’s a really good place to start. When you have something you love to do that you’re also good at, that’s starting to get into that sweet spot about where you might have a business.

What don’t you want to do?

Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you have to do it. If you are trying to create a side hustle, there has to be some element of desire there. You have to want to do it because there are going to be times when you’re tired or frustrated, but your desire to be good at it and to be a good business person and because you really do enjoy what you’re doing will get your butt up off the couch and you’ll do it anyway. So think about not only what you want to do but what you don’t want to do.

Who would buy what you’re offering?

It is always a thousand times easier to have a network of people that you know that you can at least talk to you about what you’re offering. This community can be family, friends, in person or virtual.  Just make sure that you’ve got someone to sell to.
